The Road to Wellness Is Paved with Yoga Mats

From the first time I sat on the mat in 2001, yoga helped me feel better overall. I've found that yoga and mindfulness have not only helped me survive but also thrive. Practicing helps me be healthier and happier, have better relationships, and feel a sense of wellbeing, no matter what.

Fast-forward: In 2015, I completed the Kripalu Yoga teacher training and became a yoga teacher. Since then, I've continued my studies, focusing on yoga and mindfulness programs designed to facilitate healing from various health and life challenges.

Through personal experience and extensive training, I've learned how yoga and mindfulness can support healing from conditions such as Lyme Disease, Covid, cancer, and trauma, as well as other mental, emotional, and physical health challenges.

In 2023, I created an Immune Wellness Yoga program that builds on yoga's foundational benefits. It incorporates specific poses and sequences designed to strengthen the immune system, decrease inflammation, and increase resilience in both body and mind.

I teach classes both online everywhere and in-person at studios and community spaces on Cape Cod. Additionally, I offer private individual and group classes tailored to your specific needs. If you have any questions, need more information, or are interested in designing a class for yourself, your family, or your friends, please feel free to contact me.

Adventures in Mindfulness

I'll never forget how good I felt after my first yoga experience back in 2001. With the hope that it might help me heal from a year-long bout with Lyme Disease, my wife introduced me to a wonderful Kripalu hatha yoga class led by two amazing teachers in Provincetown. As I was sitting up after Savasana, I actually thought, "if I ever have time, someday I'd like to become a yoga teacher so I can share this amazing feeling with other people.” Soon after I noticed that even with persistent Lyme symptoms, I had a renewed sense of wellbeing. I was starting to feel better for the first time in months. I wanted more. At that point, I started doing yoga as often as possible. When I was finally recovering from a serious brain injury caused by chemotherapy and benzodiazepines, I decided to become a yoga & mindfulness teacher. I began teaching in 2015 after completing the Kripalu Yoga teacher training. Over time, I explored a broad range of yoga disciplines such as Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Hot Yoga, and Power Yoga and enjoyed learning from a wide variety of teachers. Since then, I’ve continued my studies with a focus on programs and practices that are designed specifically to facilitate healing from various health and life challenges. I’ve completed numerous yoga and mindfulness training programs such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), immune wellness, cancer, trauma, drug withdrawals, addiction & recovery, stress response, anxiety & depression, and related areas. In parallel, I continue to study the interrelated issues of trauma, its impact on health, and options for healing and recovery with a focus on somatic and body-based therapies. My certifications include Kripalu Yoga Teacher (KYT) Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F) from the Center for Trauma & Embodiment at JRI, Oncology Yoga from Yoga4Cancer, Yoga Alliance RYT-500, and Mindfulness-based Social & Emotional Learning instructor (MBSEL) from Mindfulness First. Over the years, I’ve participated in a variety of programs with organizations such as The Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical Center, Omega Institute, Insight Meditation Society, Sonobe Zen Buddhist Center in Japan, and the Garchen Institute of Tibetan Buddhism. I’ve been very fortunate to have studied with many gifted mindfulness teachers and spiritual leaders including Sharon Salzberg, Brahmani Liebman, Jack Kornfield, Dan Siegel, Joseph Goldstein, Oren Jay Sofer, Pema Chodron, and Thich Nhat Hanh. In 2002, my family and I traveled to Austria for the honor of participating in the Kalachakra for World Peace led by Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader H.H. the Dalai Lama. I'll continue practicing yoga and mindfulness as long as I can still take a breath. No matter what is going on, it always helps me feel better.
